&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; A rock is a perfect metaphor, an allegory in volume. When placed it’s sculptural limits beget a kind of artistic proposition — and when considered with reduced anthropomorphism and ungeologically — produce a ready-made analog to the causation and bounds of our attempts at the understanding of all things. 


Here the sculptor has made no concessions; no attempts to curry favor with curators or collectors — pieces wholly outside discourse. And if pressed for an affiliate movement for these “sculptures” (i.e. Cubism, Mannerism, etc.)… perhaps Monism or Cosmogonism? Definitely not Conceptualism or Pataphysics — Actualism?


The analog? Well for sure it is 1:1. Weird; yes — a knot to be admired for it’s curves — not for untying. An emergent surface as thick as it’s mass.&#38;nbsp;

&#38;nbsp; 
Were it possible for the instances of our minds or world events&#38;nbsp;to be mapped and dimensionally materialized, something similar to a rock would appear — areas of smoothness yielding to pockmarked particularities, density shifts and feathered explosions. What really is the shape of a boom town? A pilgrim’s journey? A section of jungle mayhem? A boring era? The silhouette of a father’s cold slap? The contours of a brief, intense friendship? Comfortably we perceive all of these things as ready to be integrated into ledgers or novels or timelines; but really they are queer crags and striations of unimaginable idiosyncrasy.


So yes, the reflective, reasonable yield of our mind has much symmetry (computation, cataloguing, narrativizing, etc.) but it’s actual shape is no shape, but unfolding chaos and singularity visible only to our particular time-scale. Our species-wide symmetries and quantizations are basically improvisations white-labeled onto directionless infinitude attempting the constant creation of navigable Dimension.


So, look intimately at a rock, walk around it, get up close to it, savor it’s complexion and composition as you would any painting or temple and see it as the faultless mirror that it is — a truly perfect sculpture.

Dancing shadows
The works in the series Dancing Shadows emerged from a fascination sparked by an encounter with a shadow during a vacation in France. During the day, this shadow moved and created intriguing images on the wall of the house where I was staying. It became the inspiration for a series of works that explore the beauty of shadows and their transformative power in our visual world. It is remarkable how something as simple as a shadow can evoke such wonder and reveal hidden patterns and shapes in the everyday objects around us.

The works in this series focus on the power of simplicity and the connection we can feel with our immediate surroundings. In an increasingly fast-paced world, they invite a moment of reflection and wonder at the small, often overlooked details in our lives, such as a shadow. They emphasize how something ordinary, like an interesting shadow, can reconnect us with the beauty of the world.

Dancing Shadows touches on themes of nostalgia, collective memory, and the power of attention in a world often dominated by distraction.

Vincent van Gogh once wrote: “…and then, I have nature and art and poetry, and if that is not enough, what is enough?”


In the video installation ‘We Found Nature, Art and Poetry’&#38;nbsp; Marte de Jager and I explored the landscapes Van Gogh once lived in. Following his footsteps, we travelled through the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. Capturing the atmosphere of these places that once inspired Van Gogh with their beauty. Through a contemporary lens, we explored how these environments can still move us today. Marte approached the journey through writing, while I used Super 8 film to capture my observations. We combined these video’s and text together into a video installation existing of two separate monitors that communicate showing separate interpretations of the same inner movement: the desire to wander, to look, to listen.


Besides being my best friend for many years, Marte also shares a special connection with Van Gogh. As a distant relative and someone actively involved in the foundation that preserves his legacy, she carries a personal bond with his life and work. This connection, together with her beautiful writing, led us to collaborate on this project.

There are stories everywhere. If you look carefully and don't immediately gravitate towards the 'biggest' story, you discover a whole new world. This is the world of small, inconspicuous, hidden stories. Here space is still flexible, an area where no truth exists yet, but is easily overlooked. With my work, I seek out the poetry of precisely these images that are located next to the obvious subject. They question the subject we almost don't get to see. With analogue photography, film and slide projection, I capture this world, which lies between the apparent reality and our fantasy.
